movie, movie and a muse

This last few fun city things I've done have been free and free is for me. Not only that but they've been awesome too. Regarding Warhol is at the MET right now and so worth seeing. It's sixty artist over fifty years that have been influenced by Warhol in one way or another. Plus some great Warhols, some I've never seen before and that is always fun; to see something new from a favorite artist. Viewing his work this week also made me think about how interesting it would be see his take on all the social media that is 'us' right now. Would Warhol rule instagram? I just keep thinking so.

Last week I went to a screening of Smashed at the MoMa. So worth seeing. Not so serious but serious. Relatable but not because it's you. The cast? great. The acting? even better.

This week I went to the premiere of Here Comes the Boom. Such a fun night. I was no more than 6 feet away from Adam Sandler and many others from the cast, though I didn't get to see Kevin James in person. That would've been cool. The movie was a typical Happy Madison film and I mean that in a good way. Happy endings, {not what you're thinking, it's PG} touching stories, unsung heroes, awkward characters and funny one liners.
Also, go see it.

Hope your weekend is filled with fun. Happy Friday!!

what is with today {today}

This week. Woe is me, is what keeps ringing in my head and it’s only Tuesday. I rarely talk about work around here because this is my outlet of all things creative that I enjoy but I thought I’d share a glimpse of my day-to-day today. “What’s with today, today?” as Lucas would say. As for me, I work in the world of Finance as a Personal/Executive Assistant. Meetings, Travel, Lunches, Going to the Apple Store, Picking up Dry-cleaning and all that jazz. Girl Friday with a title, as I like to think sometimes. There are occasional perks but man oh man, on days like these it is hard to remember them. I love my job though and so the day moves on.

Last week I went to a screening of Another Happy Day. It was a great movie, real and emotional yet not that touching… it was hard to pinpoint a descriptive for the movie but if you watch it maybe you’ll get what I mean and I do recommend it. Q&A with the writer/director, Sam Levinson and actor, Ezra Miller following the movie. Also before all that I tried my first vegan cheese plate with chocolates and wine. Chocolates, amazing. Vegan cheese, eh. But Cocoa V was such a cute little spot, I’ll def be back to try more of their vegan sweet treats.

Q&A Movie Fun Facts
~
::Sam Levinson took three weeks to write the script::
::and he watched Fox News almost the entire time, while writing::
::only took 23 days to film::
::the writer of 3 songs in the movie was at the screening with his Mom, from Baltimore::
::Ezra Miller was 17 when filming the movie and the whiskey he was shooting was watered down apple juice::
::Sam Levinson loves to drop some f*bombs like I've never known::

vampire red and sparkle

With thoughts of Twilight in my head, last night I did my nails again… the only thing missing is a little glitter but I wanted to keep it to the sheer, sparkly pink and vampire red colors and I don’t have glitter in either of those. Maybe it’s time to go nail shopping again! And guess what tonight is!! Breaking Dawn, Part One :: that’s right, I will be there on opening night right after work with all the crazy, fanatic girls. I might be in my 30’s but we all need to let out our inner 13 year old every now and then. And you ask what I’m doing after. Well my grown up self will be ready for a drink. That’s right :: there will definitely be drinks after, I’ll need something to balance all those teenage girl hormones in the air. Anyone else as excited as I am to see Bella and Edward stare at each other for hours?

this am, leaves on the ground, gloves on the hand :: it's getting colder around here

“About three things I was absolutely positive:
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him-and I didn't know how dominant that part might be-that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.”

the roots of a youth

Around this time of year is when the movie world tends to start showing off their big guns in terms of good movies. Recently I’ve seen The Help, The Debt, Drive and The Warrior. All recommended to see if you haven’t and all for different reasons of course. And last night I saw a screening of 50/50 at the MoMa with the writer Q&A to follow. A movie about a boy in his 20’s who gets cancer. Will Reiser {the writer} was diagnosed with cancer when he was 25. The perspective of this movie was more real than most movies I see or feel today. It was normal-everyday, it was sad and it was laugh-out-loud funny, literally. Seth Rogen added the perfect comedic balance to the movie. I think and I hope we all have a friend like that. They might, on the surface, be a little selfish but deep down they really are only thinking of you and trying to deal. I could go through each great casting but I won’t – I’ll leave that for you to discover for yourself and they’re all that good. Really. Even the soundtrack is great.

Q&A Movie Fun Facts
~
:: Seth Rogen is a friend of the writer and was there for Will beating out cancer::
::originally the movie was titled, I'm With Cancer but they went with 50/50 suggested by Bryce Dallas Howard::
::Will's favorite scene ~ when Kyle, Seth's character confronts Adam's GF where half is scripted and half is his own improv::
::the first doctor scene "was sort of a f**k you to a certain Doctor" said Will::
you'll get it when you see it

we're all looking for love ~ then we find it and love isn't enough

Friday night was the GenArt Film Premiere of Elektra Luxx – another entertaining night of a movie. The movie is about a retired (aka pregnant) porn star played by Carla Gugino. She fit the role perfectly. Oh and in person her voice is the sultriest voice I have ever heard – I was a little jealous; I’ll admit it. Her character was strong-minded and independent yet very open and vulnerable. The movie has a campy feel to it and I do think it could’ve used a few more campy scenes therefore making it less serious. Sometimes trying to make a movie serious (when it doesn’t need to be) equals a little too cheesy. But it was entertaining, filled with laughs and also made you think about the role in life as a woman. This movie was definitely all about women. If you want something light and enjoyable then see this movie – it was worth a couple hours of my time. They also did the Q&A after the film and hearing the director/writer speak – I am just such a fan of him now and I cannot wait to see more from him.

Fun Facts of the Movie
~
- Movie was shot in 15 days
- This movie is part of three movies all related - Women in Trouble – Elektra Luxx - Women in Ecstasy
- The female actors said the director makes them feel comfortable so they take risks in character and Carla added that sometimes that is when the best things happen in film
- When writing such a film – you write with a budget in mind
- Also this was the first real premiere because at the first premiere the film cut off an hour in and they never got to finish it

The after party was at Hudson Terrace – I went for a drink and saw that guy from Gossip Girl and that guy from Heroes but I didn’t stay out too late… my Mom arrived Saturday am at 9 for a visit – so I needed to make sure I got some sleep! More details on the weekend later…

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

a love letter isn't about you ~ it is about the person you are writing to

Last night I attended my first movie premiere through GenArt Film Festival. 7 premieres – 7 parties. They are an organization that showcases up and coming art, performance, design and film. This year is the GenArt 15th Annual Film Festival and they have a great lineup to see. Last night I saw Waiting For Forever. It was a movie full of heart; that is real and loveable and well done. It does have a serious theme and really looks into people’s deep relationships and how life is viewed and what is accepted but it was so great to watch. Whenever or wherever it is released – I highly recommend you see it. After the screening they did a Q&A with the writer, director, producer and some of the actors. So fun to be a part of!

Fun Facts of the Movie
~
- For Will to wear pajamas, it was the writers idea because he has a friend in Cali that wears them regularly
- Tom Sturridge brought the hat to the character which is also used on the movie poster now
- Tom found the script on the floor of the guy’s couch he was crashing on
- Rachel embodies that person that makes the wait worth it (as stated by the writer and director)
- Composer of the movie is a 5 time Oscar winner (and he was at the premiere)

My camera was acting up last night and wouldn’t let me get good shots in the lighting but here are some at least. After party was at SL (the old Lotus) on 14th St with free tequila and stella – can’t wait for more tonight! Tonight I’m going to see Elektra Luxx and will share more details with you all after the weekend and hopefully get some better snapshots this time.

Have a Happy Friday!
{and the rest of the weekend}
