It had been so long since I'd been to a fair so it was great when I was able to visit the L.A. County Fair this year. When I think back, I can't believe it had been so much time since I last went to one and I still have yet to visit the NY State Fair. Definitely on my list for next year. I just LOVE festivals, rides, fairs and amusement parks. All that goodness of giggles wrapped up in a day of play! Yes, please. what is with today {today}

This week. Woe is me, is what keeps ringing in my head and it’s only Tuesday. I rarely talk about work around here because this is my outlet of all things creative that I enjoy but I thought I’d share a glimpse of my day-to-day today. “What’s with today, today?” as Lucas would say. As for me, I work in the world of Finance as a Personal/Executive Assistant. Meetings, Travel, Lunches, Going to the Apple Store, Picking up Dry-cleaning and all that jazz. Girl Friday with a title, as I like to think sometimes. There are occasional perks but man oh man, on days like these it is hard to remember them. I love my job though and so the day moves on.

Last week I went to a screening of Another Happy Day. It was a great movie, real and emotional yet not that touching… it was hard to pinpoint a descriptive for the movie but if you watch it maybe you’ll get what I mean and I do recommend it. Q&A with the writer/director, Sam Levinson and actor, Ezra Miller following the movie. Also before all that I tried my first vegan cheese plate with chocolates and wine. Chocolates, amazing. Vegan cheese, eh. But Cocoa V was such a cute little spot, I’ll def be back to try more of their vegan sweet treats.

First I will start with :: I didn’t dress up this weekend or even do one thing that was Halloween related. But today is officially HALLOWEEN so no telling what’s in store for tonight!

Friday night consisted of bar hoping that included sundaes {with a martini for me} and pizza to end to the night at 4am. I was so excited to finally check out The {new} Smith on 51st and 2nd. The original is down in the East Village and without fail, it is always packed. With this one only being open for two weeks I was surprised when I walked in and they felt so on as if they’d been open for years. So kudos to them and I cannot wait to go back. They are known for their comfort food, a great late night snack and their brunch. Even better, they kept the tradition and added a b&w photo booth in the unisex bathroom. Adore.

Then late Saturday I woke up to the below… though it doesn’t look like much, I was not thrilled. Too much, too soon I guess I’d say. I’m getting used to going out in the snow more each year but getting dressed in costume to go out in the snow, I just wasn’t feeling it. So I stayed in, cozied up and watched some {so bad they are good} made for TV movies. Sometimes I want need to indulge my inner-tween and watch some ABC Family Originals. Yep, it was that kind of night.

Recently I made my first trip over to Roosevelt Island. The small thin strip of land that lays btwn mid/upper Manhattan and Queens. I always thought it was purely residential {and mostly is} but they also have a cute little walk around the island with site-seeing things, a .25 bus to take you around if you’re tired of walking and a very small area with 2-3 restaurants and a Starbucks. In a way, it felt like we were in an alt-reality, maybe something like The Truman Show. Slightly not so Manhattan but you knew the big city was right next door. Then it was back to the city to explore a little for the day {it feels so good to be a tourist when you’re not supposed to be}. First we needed food and made a stop at a little random Italian spot in the West Village; it was good because we were hungry but not much more than that to talk about. We made our next stop at Carrie’s steps – after seeing Mayra {Life is Bananas} stop by there on her visit to NYC, made me realize I can’t believe I’ve never been! Then after all that – it was time for some sweet treats… or rather cupcakes and beer. Hello, Sweet Revenge, oh how I love you and I cannot wait to go back to you. Happy little day to be a tourist.

just a good excuse

Random spot close enough to Times Square to say it’s in Times Square. Delish enough though to stop in for a quick bite and a drink {but only if you are craving fried, cheesy and maybe a little greasy food}.

Also been thinking of new things to add to the blog when last night I found some old photos. And with that Flashback Fridays will be in full effect as of today! I was such a little hippie in High School… this is me getting my first car for my 16th B-day… a 1972 Volkswagen Bus… yes, it was awesome.

Last night I ventured out to Brooklyn for a work dinner at Lucali. If you live in BK, you must eat there as soon as possible even if just for a great date night out. If you live in Manhattan or another borough, the easy trek off of your grid is worth it. I will admit maybe not the best pizza I’ve ever had but the setting, mood and nutella pie for dessert made the trip out to Brooklyn worthwhile. Since this was a work dinner though I didn’t break out my camera so I found this picture that to me sums up the night of eating and drinking lots of wine {note that this spot is BYOB though, so you can bring the cheap stuff it you want!}. We had bottles of red rotating around our tables. It was a Terrific Tuesday night!

As some of you know I am a huge fan of wine and yesterday I took my Mom to Xai Xai after work… even though the wines are pricey – this place is turning into one of my fav spots in the city and yesterday they had the doors open, letting in all the spring air… I can already imagine spending half of my summer happy hours here or maybe just those lazy Sunday afternoons… gotta love the lush in me!

Xai Xai is a South African wine bar – they play such happy music and everyone there is always so nice. I sipped on Seven Sisters Pinotage Rose – it was on the sweeter side but had such a clean finish that it had me dreaming of summer days to come – very refreshing. I realize now though I look so tired in this picture {and it was only Monday}! My mom doesn’t like taking pictures or being in them so these are the few shots I was able to get. If anyone is in the city – this place is definitely worth checking out!
