Last night I was attempting to make it to the Annual NYC Halloween Parade in the West Village but between finishing work and not really being able to pull together a last minute costume that I was feeling, I didn't make it out. I ended up playing with makeup in compliment to Dia de los Muertos. Last year I saw numerous blogs post about it and found it interesting to look up more. I know the idea of it but not what it fully encompasses. Yesterday I asked my co-worker what he thought if people dressed as this for a Halloween costume and he only said, “it’s a day to remember and put out favorite things for them but in Los Angeles they all paint their faces.” Interesting response but I get it. Maybe it's taking away part of a tradition or culture? Before recently I didn’t know much about this Holiday but then I found this blog post and loved how she explained it. What a great way to remember people that were in your life. I have more than a few people to think of on this day but I will remember the happy thoughts about them. Do you know much about this Holiday? Ok to use this as a Halloween costume?
I will add though, it sure was fun doing my makeup!

You know...as far as "is it okay to dress up like that for halloween?" question....I feel like everyone is getting "so offended" nowadays to everything. I get that some people take it too far...but I think it is a compliment to ones culture. Not a put down. So, yes - I think it is fine...and I love your outcome. Very cool. Being from San Antonio...I have always enjoyed this tradition. Cheers.
good quote.

Wow! That make-up is incredible and I love how you have fully embraced Halloween, or day of the dead.
I wish I had had my makeup done like that!!! Looks insanely good.

wow, you did a great job!!! Now how did it take you to wash it off? just kidding!
I don't know much about halloween because growing up my parents didn't really celebrate it. I usually dress up and attend a house party or two but that's about it.
your makeup looks rad!!!
i've actually known about this holiday and its history for years. when i was younger i was placed in bilingual classes (no i didn't speak spanish but for some reason the school thought i did) and one of the lessons they taught about was dia de los muertos. in fact, i didn't learn about the makeup part of the holiday until recently. i now see it everywhere and love it!
