Picture Perfect Friday

~joy equals a glitter skirt and kicking your heels up~

I got my new camera this week and I can't wait to try it out this weekend. The above are a couple camera shots that inspire thoughts of the weekend fun to come!

And the Day Goes on

Today I was going to post the pictures from the headshots that I took for a friend but of course, even though I was up early, I still managed to be late for work and forgot the CD at home. It took me long enough to put the negatives onto a disc in the first place. So now I'm stuck without anything to post for the day - I'll see how the day progresses. It is Friday in NYC, raining outside and cold in my office. Can't wait for 5pm!

Get it the way you like it

One of my favorite daily reads is from Rumi Neely; her blog is fashiontoast. She mixes highs and lows of brands and sometimes it comes out so wrong that it is right on point and I love it! Her style is awesome - almost as if you would throw a New Yorker on the beaches of Cali, all the while not really knowing she had sand between her toes yet relishes the saltwater air in her hair. Through her blog she has made contacts and connections and is now even modeling and people are suddenly interested in what inspires her. Side note that she also seems to have a great boyfriend that takes all her pics and he's a pretty great street photographer too. This month she is in revolveclothing.com magazine sharing her favorite things to mix for different looks and I just wanted to note this dress that I absolutely adore and can't wait to add to my wardrobe. To me, she's an inspiration to have fun with what you wear and who cares what the next person thinks, it really is all about what makes you comfy. Being you in your own fashion sense.
Cheers to that! Hope you all enjoy a little bit of Rumi as much as I do.

Don't Forget the Weekend

Happy long weekend it was. I wish I could say that yesterday was included in my long weekend since I’m just getting around to writing but it wasn’t. I was welcomed back to work with craziness and not a moment for my daily personal getaway. I’m even behind on my reading of other blogs. I’ll have a lot of catching up to do come Friday. As for the past holiday weekend… here we go… started the weekend catching up with a friend in town from NC and seeing my roomie on stage again. So fun to watch her perform - snacks at Room Service on 9th and drinks at Gossip, then dancing at Mean Fiddler and so apparently I did go out for Fleet Week in NYC although I will never understand that appeal. Mean Fiddler was trash on Friday night and I called it an early night around 3am. Saturday was a day of fun in the park with my neighbors followed by champagne and St-Germain on our rooftop. Watching the UFC fight was great in our own private viewing room at Playwright – who would’ve known that we would find a space that wasn’t shoulder to shoulder; keeping it in mind for the next fight. A couple more stops after that and home to bed but not before a couple rounds of truth or truth. We truly do entertain ourselves in the best ways possible. Up by 9am to go hiking in Jersey on Sunday – had to stop by target on the way home (because there isn’t one in the city) and then out to dinner at Sushi Samba for a friends Birthday dinner. Exhausted, in bed and passed out by 1am. Happy to sleep away the Monday; I got up with enough time to have a couple drinks and a late lunch with a couple friends, then nothing sounded better than sitting in a movie theater for the rest of my night. I saw Angels and Demons and I was surprised it was really good. Snuggling down in my bed on new sheets never felt so great. What a long weekend it was.

Toast to the Long Weekend

Sometimes we all just need a little champagne... and that's how I'm feeling right now.

Have a happy long weekend!

The truth is..

"I have a theory that the truth is never told during the nine-to-five hours."
- Hunter S. Thompson
It is still a little cold outside for May in the City; however, the sun is shining today and the truth is... I'd like to be anywhere than sitting inside at my desk today. I walked through Central Park on my lunch break and the park is already in full bloom. The grass is getting greener, the buds are blooming and with all the rocks to climb and nooks to discover throughout the park, it reminded me of this picture and how much I'd rather find a little space like this to soak up the sun and enjoy the glamour of the day instead of working the nine-to-five right now.

Another Couple Nights

The weekend started with making grilled cheese sandwiches right after work followed with s’mores and wine – took me back to re-enact the Sandlot scene – I truly can’t help myself, saw my roomie in her first stage performance and she did great – a play of Sex, Love and Sometimes…. Relationships and we got to drink free PBR during the show, stopped by Tonic for drinks to meet up with some friends visiting in town but first went shopping for a new dress at AA that I got to wear on Saturday night and LOVED it, went out with friends for more drinks and some dancing. Got up too early on Saturday to meet friends for brunch and discovered that I really do get my best sleep between the hours of 12pm and 5pm, walked by Samantha Mathis on 49th St, had many glasses of champagne and surprisingly a yummy German breakfast followed by walking around the East Village to take a few photographs and now trying to decide if I’m considered a street photographer or an editorial photographer… not entirely sure of the difference yet. Met new friends for more drinks and later went out for more drinks and dancing, got caught in the rain and had curly, messy hair for the rest of the night, witnessed friends having a ‘dance-off’ and it was seriously the highlight of my year so far. Slept in and was awoken by Mickey Mouse asking me to get chipotle with my neighbors but I declined and stayed in bed for a little longer, went to a friends housewarming party and realized how great it would be to have a patio apt in the city - maybe one day - went out for dinner in Hell’s Kitchen after walking by Edward Norton on 2nd Ave and buying a new puma bag – can’t wait to use it - the dinner was good with good company but the background bachata music was a little loud for my Sunday dinner liking, discovered that the gorgeous tiny chicken machine show is hysterical, crawled in my warm and comfy bed and drifted to sleep by 12:30am.

Blow 'em up for Brunette's

Just wanted to share these couple pics coming out from Vman magazine - where Ashley Olsen goes a little darker... and she still totally rocks!

It's all in the Gossip...

Last night Gossip Girl aired some flashbacks of Lily's past and I loved it! I wish I could steal this dress (the one on the left). It totally rocks.

Simple Weekend

Dinner and Margaritas uptown on Friday night with the girls and then more drinks and a little dancing with a friend after and wondering why guys really just don’t get the hint when you're not interested, I prefer not to be so mean. In bed by a decent hour and then breakfast in bed around 8am – bodega egg sandwich with ketchup, salt & pepper – then I went back to sleep for most of the day and passed up a trip to IKEA, I needed to save the money and wanted a little more sleep. Finally took more snapshots for my portfolio at sundown and my first official headshot session, happy with the turnout and will post some of those soon, then had dinner at Empanada Mama’s and I think the highlight of my weekend was their tostones – always so great there and shared a pitcher of Sangria. Had a drink with my neighbors, then I watched SNL solo and met up with some friends on the Eastside – which I don’t really care for but I wanted to be out. Slept in again all day Sunday and went for a walk with friends to get ice cream around the block – I love lazy Sundays, had dinner and more drinks at Brazil Grill and witnessed Barbara Bush walk down 8th Avenue with a daughter and bodyguards that looked like secret service, saw I Love you, Man, it felt good to laugh and because I was at the movies solo, I got an invite to join a guy who was also watching the movie solo – I declined his offer, wasn’t in the mood for stranger talk and besides, when you’re at the movies does it really matter if you have someone sitting next to you?

Heavy Heart... Happy Soul

More and more each day I can't believe this year - I've never had so much sorrow - directly and indirectly - in one time frame of my life and it is not even half way through. I wanted to share this little blurb that I found about balancing the happy and sad in life - it just seemed fitting and I wish I could take credit for the thoughts behind it. I hope you get something from it too.

"When you are trying to help others, you begin to feel that the world is so disordered. I personally feel sadness, always. You feel sad, but you don’t really want to burst into tears. You feel embryonic sadness. That sadness is a key point. In the back of your head, you hear a beautiful flute playing, because you are so sad. At the same time, the melody cheers you up. You are not on the bottom of the barrel of the world or in the Black Hole of Calcutta. In spite of being sad and devastated, there is something lovely taking place. There is some smile, some beauty."

The Bang Theory

Me with bangs before...

Still thinking about getting bangs again as I mentioned yesterday and now I am seeing them everywhere. Is it time for me to make the cut?

images {1- this is glamorous 2 - Zooey 3 - Heidi 4- model 5 - Hilary}

I kinda like you... But now I really f**kin love you...

Gossip Girl really seems to be bringing out some musical talents and thus far Little J aka Taylor Momsen is definitely my favorite. This girl rocks and she writes her own music. The Pretty Reckless performed at The Annex in NYC last night and I should've been there. Next time because there is bound to be more from these guys.

Lots of luck to this little star in the making.

I think that's what "they" say

The rain in NYC right now is never-ending and a bit overwhelming. I decided to draw on a little inspiration from one of my fav summer girl looks ~ Kirsten Dunst ~ her blonde hair and toothy grin always make me want to be that kid again in the warm summer sun, waiting on the ice cream man, having a picnic in the park or just rolling around in the grass. Here are a few thoughts for the warm weather to come...

"It is not enough to conquer; one must know how to seduce."
- Voltaire

These are the perfect summer glasses.

"I'd like to turn the whole world on... just for a moment."

- Edie Sedgwick

Lastly, this shot makes me want bangs again - I kind of miss them - maybe I will go get a haircut...

Just Another May Day...

It's the 5th of May and most of the drinkers should know what that means... its Cinco de Mayo - just another reason to drink - like we actually needed one... here are a few inspiring images if I could be anywhere else other than the nyc rain...
I would wear this

And drink like Kate

And eat some yummy and messy nachos

Now go have a shot of Tequila and enjoy the afternoon.

Love Away

One of the artists that I discovered this weekend is Kurt Halsey. I have seen some of his work being sold at Urban Outfitters and somewhat liked it but now seeing his other prints made me so excited. He perfectly places the emotions of angst and joy of love in an image with simple words. I heart his work forever now. I hope some of you are inspired in the ways I have been inspired… Enjoy!

Any Given Weekend

This past weekend... I attended a sangria social on the West Side that I tried to like but the people were rude and the bartenders even more rude but I loved that I got to see a new space, then found myself at a bar in the bowling alley and met a cop that told me the reason he was the last to a crime scene was for self preservation, I thought - doesn't your job description include the words 'to serve and protect the people'?... discovered a few new artist on the bowling alley ad screen that I now adore and can't wait to buy some of their stuff, found myself at another bar and listened to new Lady Gaga stuff, then Saturday I wasted the day away but being lazy in my bed all day long was all that I wanted to do with the exception of getting up to eat homemade goat cheese omelets with veggie sausage and gorgonzola, thought that I might go outside but decided against it since it was still cloudy and raining and got back in bed, attempted to clean my room a little but watched movies and drank a bottle of wine instead, woke up Sunday hoping the rain would be gone but it wasn't, went to outdoor music festival anyway and found myself wet all day long but discovered some new music that I liked, got a little bruised from the mosh pit and considered maybe I am too old for this now, but then rocked out to No Doubt for about an hour and a half anyway, then made my way home and had Taco Bell for the first time in many, many months, crawled in my bed to sleep, woke up late today and it is still raining...

A Day in Bloom

I've been a little distracted from my blog this week as I have officially started my new website for my photos. Some friends and family have always told me that my pictures had that extra little something but I never truly saw it that way... nevertheless, I'm putting them out there now for all to see. You never know when a little hobby could turn into a little something more, right? So anyone who has also stumbled across my blog, please check out my new site www.citygirlsnapshots.com and let me know what you think. It is still a work in progress so check it out and check back again and again for my updates! Enjoy.
